In cooperation of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) Working Party 2.09.01 “Seed Orchards”, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), the Forestry Research Institute of Sweden (Skogforsk), the IUFRO Seed Orchard Conference 2017 will be held in Bålsta, Sweden on September 4–6, 2017.
The conference theme
The goal of this conference is to provide the opportunity for scientists, students and managers of seed orchards and forest regeneration to exchange the most recent scientific advances related to forest tree seed orchards and their integration in the forestry practice. Areas that will be encompassed at the conference include, but are not limited to, the link between seed orchards and long-tem tree breeding; seed orchard design and management; forest pathology in relation to seed production, seed testing and storage; seed physiology and technology; forest economics; gene conservation; and interaction of seed orchards with related disciplines.
Seed orchards represent the most important link between long-term forest tree breeding and silviculture and provide the most cost-efficient way to produce genetically improved seeds for reforestation. Their merits touch upon many of the key issues of the current World – the supply of raw materials and energy, carbon sequestration, climate change, gene conservation, forest certification and sustainability. At the same time, they have a great potential to help redress the consequences of human-induced damages such as deforestation and land degradation.
Authors who wish to deliver an oral presentation or a poster must submit an Abstract written in English. The recommended length of an abstract is between 300 words and three A4 pages, including the title of the contribution, authors, their affiliation, up to 5 keywords and references. If necessary for a better delivery of the scientific content, an abstract can include figures and tables. Text should be written in Times New Roman, size 12, double-spaced and with 2.5 cm margins on all sides of the page.
If a communication has more than one author, the presenting author should be underlined and accompanied with full name, address, phone and fax number and e-mail. An abstract will be published in the Conference Proceedings only if presented as oral or poster presentation by one of the co-authors.
Registration is open from 01 Feb, 2017. Find out more options for registrations here.
Abstracts must be submitted using the online Abstract Submission Form at the latest by April 30, 2017.
The conference starts from 4th September 2017 to 6th September 2017.
The conference will be held in Bålsta, a small town conveniently located near Arlanda’s largest international airport in Sweden. The venue, Aronsborgs Conference Centre, is a cozy place that offers a lot more than just a pleasant learning environment for our conference. After the official program you will be able to relax or chat with your colleagues in one of the numerous hotel facilities or take advantage of being just an hour from city centers of Stockholm and Uppsala, two of the most charming cities in Scandinavia with plenty of sights to see and activities to enjoy!
