The COVID-19 pandemic is pushing global agri-food systems to change in various ways.
All actors across agricultural value chains from the public, to private, and civil society sectors are responding to these changes to ensure food and nutrition security.
During the UN Committee on World Food Security (CFS) Advisory Group Emergency meeting to address the implications of the COVID-19 pandemic on food security and nutrition, the Chair of the high-level panel of experts stated (paraphrased), “Market forces-driven supply chains such as Just-in-Time (JIT) mechanisms are efficient but not resilient as we are seeing now during this pandemic.” What also needs to be highlighted is that the aspect of engaging youth in agriculture - which is crucial - to make the agri-food systems resilient, especially in the light of COVID-19.
This web discussion, therefore, seeks to highlight and try to map out what the way forward is for Youth-in-Ag dynamics post-COVID-19. The e-forum is organized by YPARD Philippines in partnership with Dream Agritech Consultancy Services, and co-presented by YPARD and WhyFarm.
