On the initiative of COLEAP and Pan African Farmers' Organization (PAFO) with the participation of the YPARD Global network and YPARD Africa, Anny Kamala, a young Congolese woman was one of the panelists who shared her experience in agricultural entrepreneurship through her brand Agro BIBI, an agri-food company based in the Democratic Republic of Congo that offers products and services for women. As a member of the Young Professionals for Agricultural Development (YPARD) network, Anny is also involved in educating girls and women in her community.

The 9th Session of Innovation was attended by more than 200 participants from Africa, particularly from the DRC. The aim of the event was to promote the empowerment of women in Africa.

We asked her about her involvement in YPARD and Agribusiness and this is what she said:

"As a young professional woman, I talked about YPARD DRC which offers several opportunities to young women but also about my company, AGRO BIBI, which has developed social entrepreneurship through which it contributes to the economic empowerment of women in the Democratic Republic of Congo. AGRO BIBI trains, accompanies and supports women in agribusiness (production and processing) to ensure their economic empowerment.

I chose agribusiness as an entrepreneurial tool because for me, agribusiness is the easy way to ensure autonomy at an entire level. However, among the several challenges that women face in Africa and the DRC, there is the problem of acceptance of the project by the beneficiaries due to social barriers (habits and customs), social status, etc.

In the future, we believe that there will be a prosperous Africa, that provides accompaniment and financial support for projects led by women. This will help raise the involvement of women and business and, thus it will contribute to the development of Africa.

My thanks go to COLEAP and PAFO for giving African women the space to talk about this topic in the post-Covid19 era, which also has had an impact on many women."

Thanks for all your hard work Anny!

Merci pour votre travail Anny!
