Thinking of applying to the mentoring program? Read these tips!

So you’re thinking of applying for the YPARD mentoring program? Here are some tips to help you with your application.

  1. Read the question

It’s surprising how many people give irrelevant answers to questions. If for example we ask you to describe someone who has been important in your life, this is not the time to tell us about the last award you won. Make sure you read the question, then answer it.

  1. Be specific

“I am passionate about the role of youth in agriculture and I hope my mentor will give me the skills to overcome the many challenges I will face during my career.”

Sound familiar? While this is an acceptable response, it could apply to almost any YPARD member. What makes you unique? Be specific and give us actual examples so you stand out from the crowd (and the better we understand you, the more suitable your mentor will be).

  1. Be brief, but not too brief

If we’re asking you to describe an experience or tell us why you think you should be chosen, a one sentence answer will not suffice. At the same time, we don’t have time to read a 1,000 word essay. For the short essay answers, we recommend approximately 150 words.

     4.     Check your spelling

Bad spelling makes us think you have rushed the application and that you don’t really care about the opportunity. Make sure you read over your answers and correct spelling errors before you submit.

Specific enquiries regarding your application should be directed to YPARD’s mentoring coordinator This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Good luck!
