United Nations universityThe United Nations University (UNU-WIDER) PhD Internship Program is inviting doctoral students around the world to apply for a fully funded opportunity to utilize the resources and facilities at UNU-WIDER for their PhD dissertation or thesis research, and to work with UNU-WIDER researchers in areas of mutual interest.

PhD interns typically spend 3 consecutive months at UNU-WIDER and are expected to return to their home institution afterwards. During their time in Helsinki, PhD interns prepare one or more research papers and present a seminar on their research findings. PhD interns may also have the opportunity to publish their research in the WIDER Working Paper Series.

The EC invites proposals to strengthen Gambia’s smallholder agriculture as a strategy for poverty reduction.  Grants will be made in three lots (focus areas):  agro-ecology and ecological restoration; market access and value chains in agriculture; and access to quality food.   Eligibility for funding extends to nonprofit organizations in the EU and The Gambia. The Future for Nature Award aims to stimulate a new generation of nature conservation leaders. The award is made to candidates of any nationality or residence, not older than age 35, who have achieved substantial and long-term benefit to the conservation status of one or more animal and/or plant species, or that of a specific population. Work related to the conservation and protection of endangered species is a priority. The award is made to individuals, not organizations. Each of three award winners will be given a cash prize and a sculpture. The winners are expected to invest their prize in a conservation project of their own choice. The Scientist will contribute to the sustainable aquaculture research program by conducting high quality research in small-scale and commercial aquaculture systems aimed at improving on-farm performance. The research will include aspects associated with breed, feed and disease management, where suitable, and will require reporting to a range of funders who support the program.

S/he will work closely with other members of the sustainable aquaculture team in collaboration with the broader research teams in Africa to deliver integrated solutions to accelerate sustainable growth of aquaculture, primarily in Sub-Saharan Africa. The scientist is also required to undertake research as an effective team member within the CGIAR Research Program on Fish Agrifood Systems (FISH) and new WorldFish sustainable aquaculture research program.

The research programs manager will support the Director of Aquaculture and Fisheries   Science in results-based management of the CGIAR Research Program on Fish Agrifood Systems (FISH) and the WorldFish research strategy.

S/he will assist the Director to facilitate an inclusive management process for aquaculture and small-scale fisheries research that builds a results-oriented culture of research from proposals through planning to delivery and reporting.

Aga Khan Foundation Afghanistan seeks letter of interest from qualified engineering company for feasibility study (technical and socio-economic) of Khwahan Irrigation Canal in Khwahan District (Khwahan District is one of the 28 districts of Badakhshan Province, Located in northeastern Afghanistan. The district capital is Khwahan. The total population of the district is approximately 35,000, residents. This is district borders with the districts Raghistan to the South West, in the North East with Kuf Ab, and in the North West with Panj River and District Shuro-obodKhatlon Province, Tajikistan. Kuh-e kallat) of Badakhshan Province having canal length about 15 – 18 km. and command area around 5000 Hectors. The Source of the water for the proposed canal is considered to be Ish Hab source. The source is a result of melting snow, or ice and provides approximately 5-11 cubic meter of water depending upon the seasonal climate.

The Feasibility Study has the following main objectives;

To provide an assessment of the economic, financial, technical, social and environmental viability of the identified irrigation scheme. Including an assessment of current situation of marketing arrangements, crop production and the infrastructure and proposed options. If any, for improvement of each of area, as well as cost benefits analysis.

To prepare a feasibility Report for the proposed irrigation scheme.

To conduct a Stakeholders Meeting to disclose project’s objectives and approach and farmer’s attitude and willingness to act as partners for sustainability of the relationship.

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration until June 30, 2019. The place of work will be Dohuk, Iraq (KRI). Taking the security situation into account, travel for work will be required.

Within the project the Junior Expert – Nutrition reports to the Head of Project and supports the general project coordination and gives technical input towards the project in regards to nutrition sensitive programming. Although the main objective of the project is to increase the incomes of the beneficiaries in a sustainable way, good nutrition sensitive programming will provide additional benefits.
 

• Support the Head of Project with the general coordination and implementation of the project
• Provide technical input related to nutrition sensitive programming. This includes taking part in research, strategy development and monitoring and evaluation for nutrition sensitive programming
• Assist national staff in relation to project-specific, technical issues
• Participate in the preparation of regular reports on the implementation status of the project and local developments
• Participate in coordination committees
• Perform preparatory work for visits and visitor support

The Centre for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD) is a leading Vietnamese non-governmental organisation that was founded in 2006. The International Labour Organization (ILO) is implementing a project of support for the implementation of the Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP) in Uzbekistan.

The project implemented in 2015-2018 is funded by the United States Department of Labor (USDOL) and is implemented in close collaboration with the Tripartite Constituents of the ILO, the Ministry of Labour, the Federation of Trade Unions and the Chamber of Commerce and Industries, in support of the national DWCP, which was recently extended until 2020.   

The Minnesota Zoo (USA) sponsors the Ulysses S. Seal Conservation Grant Program to award small grants to projects promoting the conservation of wildlife. Funding priority is given to field-based conservation, but worthy zoo-based projects are considered. Since its inception in 2002, the fund has awarded over US$460 thousand to more than 200 projects in 50 countries.
