GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIPS

The Government of the Czech Republic annually offers scholarships within its Foreign Development Cooperation. These so-called government scholarships support students from developing countries who would like to study at public universities in the Czech Republic.

The Government of the Czech Republic annually offers scholarships within its Foreign Development Cooperation. These so-called government scholarships support students from developing countries who would like to study at public universities in the Czech Republic.

The Czech Republic provides scholarships for studies pursued both in the Czech language (in follow-up Master's and Doctoral study programmes) and in the English language (in follow-up Master's and Doctoral study programmes). Scholarships for studies in the Czech language are granted taking into account the list of recommended fields of study, updated according to the needs of specific countries, and also with regard to ongoing development cooperation projects. Applicants can also receive funding for a one-year-long language and preparatory course. Scholarships for study programmes in the English language are granted only in the selected study programmes.

The deadline for submitting applications for the academic year 2022/2023 is open from 20th July to 30th September 2021.

SCHOLARSHIPS OF THE SOUTH MORAVIAN CENTER FOR INTERNATIONAL MOBILITY

DURATION: for the first study year
ELIGIBLE COUNTRIES: non-EU countries
LEVEL: follow-up Master or Doctoral degree in the Czech language

South Moravian Centre for International Mobility is a specialized nonprofit organization that provides support to talented students and researchers based in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic. This scholarship scheme supports foreign students from countries out of the EU who are interested in Master or Doctoral studies at universities in Brno. Study programmes in technical and natural science are preferred. It is expected that applicants will have a good knowledge of the Czech language as they must be able to pass entrance exams at the chosen university and start studying in Czech. Scholarship applications are accepted until the end of January.

The International Visegrad Fund is an international organization founded by the governments of the Visegrad Group countries (the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia). The fund operates several grant programmes and also awards individual scholarships, fellowships, and artist residencies.

Visegrad scholarships support Master's and Ph.D. studies or research stays at universities in the Visegrad Group countries, including the Czech Republic. Applicants must come from the eligible countries listed above and they can apply for study periods up to 4 semesters. Interested applicants should submit their applications by March 15 each year.

Some Czech universities grant scholarships for Ph.D. students, some of them also scholarships for international students, scholarships in cases of outstanding study results or difficult personal situation of a student. LEVEL: Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of the Czech Republic annually offers scholarships to foreign nationals within the framework of intergovernmental exchange programmes arranged with a number of countries. These scholarships can only be granted to candidates officially recommended by the appropriate authorities in the eligible countries, which collect the applications, set the closing date for applications, and organize the selection procedure. These can be Czech embassies abroad, ministries of education, or other organizations active in the field of education.

Scholarships of this type are designed for university students, graduates, and Ph.D. candidates who wish to undertake study or research visits at one of the Czech public universities. The period of scholarship usually ranges from 2 to 10 months.

CEEPUS PROGRAMME

CEEPUS is a Central European Exchange Programme for University Studies and it supports regional cooperation in the framework of university networks. Current member countries are Albania, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, North Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, the Slovak Republic, and Slovenia. Prishtina/Kosovo is also participating. Scholarships for study abroad periods of 3-10 months are particularly available for students from universities involved in the CEEPUS programme, individual students outside the university network (freemovers) are, however, also considered as eligible applicants.

AKTION CZECH REPUBLIC - AUSTRIA

AKTION programme supports bilateral cooperation between the Czech Republic and Austria in the tertiary sector through grants and collaborative projects. For individuals, there are scholarships for study and research stays available. Each year, the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports offer scholarships for participation in the Summer Schools of Slavonic Studies. These Czech language courses are organized by several public universities in the Czech Republic and designed for international students, teachers, translators and interpreters, and other experts interested in the field of Czech/Slavonic studies.

FULBRIGHT PROGRAMME

DURATION: up to 1 year
ELIGIBLE COUNTRIES: USA
LEVEL: Master, Doctoral

The prestigious Fulbright Programme sponsored by U.S. and Czech governments provides U.S. and Czech citizens with the opportunity to study, teach, or conduct research in the partner country. It is open to all fields be it Liberal Arts or Hard Sciences (except for MBA, LLM, and Clinical Medicine). Proposals in American Studies and Central European studies are welcome as well as proposals studying intercultural or interdisciplinary aspects. U.S. candidates should apply through Fulbright Programme partner organizations in the United States where they can also find application and programme details.

BARRANDE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

DURATION: maximum of 3 years

ELIGIBLE COUNTRIES: France

LEVEL: Doctoral

The Barrande Fellowship Programme is a joint Czech-French scholarship programme to support the exchange stays of Czech and French doctoral students. It allows them to go on short-term placements and doctoral studies under dual supervision, or a “cotutelle”, in all academic fields. The scholarship is awarded for a maximum of three years. The student undertakes a 5-month stay abroad every year. Stays abroad should start on 1 October or 1 November. The length of a short stay is between 1 and 3 months.

JOSEF DOBROVSKY FELLOWSHIP SCHOLARSHIP

DURATION: short-term study stays
ELIGIBLE COUNTRIES: worldwide
LEVEL: young researchers (usually aged up to 35)

The objective of the fellowship is to support “Czech studies” in both national and territorial delimitation by means of the financing of short-term study stays of foreign researchers at the Institutes of the CAS. The fellowship is intended for young researchers (usually aged up to 35) who need to study the Czech historical, cultural, language, geographic, or natural characteristics in the Czech Republic. Applications for the Josef Dobrovský Fellowships are submitted by the directors of the Institutes of the CAS after consultation with and on the basis of a recommendation by the Institute Board.

ZDEN?K PEŠAT STIPENDIUM

DURATION: short-term study visits (usually 4 weeks)
ELIGIBLE COUNTRIES: worldwide
LEVEL: foreign researchers, university teachers, and doctoral students 

The scholarship is used to support short-term study visits of foreign researchers, university teachers, and doctoral students dealing with Czech literature in the linguistic or territorial sense, usually with four weeks duration. The scholarship is preferably awarded to those applicants whose project is related to the professional issues being worked on in the ICL.

MASARYK UNIVERSITY (BRNO)
Scholarship of the Department of Czech for Foreigners and of the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University (Brno). The Dean of Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University awards six, and the Department of Czech for Foreigners awards six three-month scholarships, each worth 8.000,- CZK per month for studying Czech language, literature, and culture.
