2017 Agriculture Travel Awards

Agriculture Journal is inviting applications for two Travel Awards for junior investigators and PhD students to attend a conference between July 2017 and June 2018. The applications will be assessed by an Evaluation Committee consisting of senior scholars in the field of agriculture.

Agriculture (ISSN 2077-0472) is an international and cross-disciplinary scholarly and scientific open access journal on the science of cultivating the soil, growing, harvesting crops, and raising livestock. We will aim to look at production, processing, marketing and use of foods, fibers, plants and animals. The journal Agriculture will publish reviews, regular research papers, communications and short notes, and there is no restriction on the length of the papers. Our aim is to encourage scientists to publish their experimental and theoretical research in as much detail as possible. Full experimental and/or methodical details must be provided for research articles.

Eligibility Criteria

a. For junior investigators: applicants should have been awarded their PhD on or after 1 July 2012 and should be conducting research in an area aligned to agriculture. The committee may give consideration to a pro-rata extension of the time frame since the award of the PhD degree in light of significant career interruptions of more than 3 months. 

b. For PhD students: applicants should be students currently enrolled in a PhD degree in an area aligned to agriculture.

Award

The junior investigator award will consist of 800 Swiss Francs.

The PhD student award will consist of 600 Swiss Francs.

How to apply

The application pack should include

a. For junior investigators: applicants must include a copy of their CV; the abstract to be presented (oral or poster) at the nominated conference; a statement of one page or less on the importance of the proposed conference to the research; and how receipt of the award would benefit their career development.

b. For PhD students: Applications must include a brief CV and an outline (not exceeding 500 words) of the applicant’s academic background, career goals and progress made in the current study and/or research program. To be eligible for the award, the student must present a paper (oral or poster) at the nominated conference; a draft of the abstract of the paper to be presented must be attached to the application. Applications must be endorsed by the student’s supervisor and Head of School.
