Post doc Researcher - Land use change or sustainability science

The Research Group BioDIVA at the Leibniz Universität Hannover (LUH) seeks a
post doctoral researcher. The researcher analyses complex social-ecological
systems and studies the changing land use patterns and its effects and
consequences for agrobiodiversity. The position is open to develop
methodological approaches (i.e. models, scenarios) which operationalise and
synthesise the economic, ecologic and social dimensions of sustainable
development.
The research group BioDIVA in Social-Ecological Research (SÖF www.sozial-
oekologische-forschung.org/en/index.php) is attached to the research initiative
TRUST (Transdisciplinary Rural Development Studies) at the LUH. The research
group develops transformation knowledge towards gender-equitable and
sustainable use of biodiversity for the future utilisation and maintenance of
complex farming-systems at the case of rice-biodiversity in the Western Ghats in
Kerala, South-India with an inter- and transdisciplinary approach. BioDIVA
cooperates with MSSRF/India, GTZ/Germany and IFPRI/USA.
To contribute to the socio-ecology of agrobiodiversity, BioDIVA seeks a post-doc,
contingent on the final approval by the German Ministry for Education and
Research (BMBF). Funding period is envisaged from January 1st, 2010 for four
years. Residency in Hanover is required.
Expected qualifications:
o Ph.D. degree in natural sciences, environmental sciences or an
interdisciplinary profile, preferably with a focus on developing countries
o Methodological experience and interest
o Proven ability to work both independently and in an interdisciplinary team
o Good working knowledge of English, including writing skills
o Organisational and intercultural communication skills
o Overseas experience; ability and motivation to travel
