Junior Researcher (PhD candidate) in food/nutrition economics
The PhD student will work in a team of ZEF researchers engaged in the project “Exploring the Future of Global Food and Nutrition Security (FNS)”, short named “FoodSecure”. ZEF is a key research partner in this project, funded by the European Commission, which assembles 18 international research institutes and many renowned researchers. The team at ZEF is responsible for researching the natural-resource dependence of FNS in developing countries (DCs), the role of science policy in shaping innovations linked with FNS, exploring the determinants of and forecasting the short- and long-term volatility of food prices, and coordinating the overall scientific relevance and quality of the FoodSecure project. The candidate will work in close collaboration with the ZEF FoodSecure team and their international partners, gaining first class experience and contacts in the field of food and nutrition security. In particular, the candidate will conduct his/her doctoral thesis on the human costs of the (intergenerational) impacts of nutrition security, for instance through mother – child transmissions of diseases linked to nutrition deficiency, and more generally on the dynamics of nutrition deficiencies and their impacts on human well-being.
Requirements:
- Masters or Equivalent in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Health Economics, or related
- Some experience in researching/analyzing nutrition issues
- Excellent oral and written English language
- Excellent interpersonal skills and team spirit
- Excellent quantitative skills and command of statistical packages such as STATA
This appointment is a three year position, starting in September 2012.
