About ICARDA
The International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) is an international autonomous, non-profit, research organization temporarily based in Beirut, Lebanon supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). ICARDA is committed to the improvement of livelihoods of the resource-poor in dry areas by enhancing food security and alleviating poverty through agricultural research, and the equitable use of natural resources.
Main purpose of the position
To assist Genebank manager on all field and laboratory activities related to genetic resources conservation, characterization and documentation.
Main responsibilities
- Undertaking field and laboratory operations of all genetic resources planted in Lebanon including land preparation, sowing, harvesting, threshing, cleaning, and weed control.
- Assisting in the characterization and evaluation of the accessions and the experiments.
- Preparing seeds for distribution.
- Contributing to collecting missions.
- Following up on all the accessions conserved at AUB Genebank.
- Introducing all data into the Genebank database and participation to analysis of data and preparation of reports.
- Supervising daily workers.
- Contribute to pre-breeding activities
- Performing any other job assigned by the supervisor.
Education, qualifications and experience
- BSc. in agriculture or related subjects and considerable demonstrated ability in field and laboratory research.
- Five years of experience in related fields.
- Experience in laboratory techniques.
- Ability to work in a team.
- Computer data entry and analysis skills (MS Office, Windows, etc.).
- Fluency in English and Arabic.
- Army training either completed or exempted.
- Driving license.
Terms of appointment, salary and benefits
The initial contract will be for 3 years, of which the first year will be probationary period.
Subsequent employment is decided based on the merit and productivity of the staff
