Aquaculture Officer -The Pacific Community in Suva, Fiji

The Pacific Community (SPC) invites applications for the position of Aquaculture Officer located at its regional office in Suva, Fiji.

 
The Aquaculture Officer will provide technical support and assist Pacific Island aquaculture and mariculture producers and enterprises to develop their technical capabilities and functions, supported by capacity development and training. The focus will be on small and medium-scale enterprises.
The key responsibilities of the role include:
  • Assisting aquaculture sector development through industry/expert networks and the provision of market information e and gender balanced aquaculture including specific assistance in feed and broodstock management and workshops / training to transfer technology 
  • Collaboration with other work areas within and across SPC sections, programmes and divisions, and other regional organisations 
  • Section administration and communication 

Key selection criteria

  • Postgraduate qualification in a field relevant to aquaculture
  • A least five years’ practical experience with small to medium-scale enterprises involved in freshwater aquaculture and mariculture, preferably in the Pacific. 
  • Excellent English language skills, with a working knowledge of French being an advantage.
  • Good interpersonal skills. A team player, with the ability to network and work effectively in a multicultural setting. Cultural sensitivity, and a demonstrated understanding of developing country environments. Knowledge of Pacific Island countries and territories is an advantage.
