PhD position in the research education subject: Business administration, rural entrepreneurship

Rural Keys for a living community

This position is offered by the Department of Economics, Rural Entrepreneurship Group (REG). REG conducts research to develop understanding of the interaction between rural entrepreneurial activities and the contexts in which they take place.

The primary duty will be to conduct research within the research program “Rural Keys for a living community”, which focuses on understanding different forms of entrepreneurship and their interaction with their rural contexts. The holder of the position will be expected to be an active and contributing member of REG, which is a well-functioning research group, currently including a guest professor, two associate professors, and four PhD students. Being an active and contributing member of the group includes 1) conducting research that leads to a successful PhD dissertation; 2) contributing to the development of REG, academically as well as socially; 3) participating in international academic conferences; 4) completing a minimum of 90 credits of national and international PhD course work; 5) carrying out limited administrative duties; and 6) contributing to the fulfilment of REG’s teaching obligations.

Qualifications

Basic eligibility for third level education in Business Studies, such as a MSc degree in Business Administration or equivalent, is required by the start of the position in August, 2017. Specialized education and/or experience in entrepreneurship, organization theory, and/or marketing is desirable, as is a demonstrated interest in empirical fieldwork and critically reflective use of academic theory. The position requires good verbal and written communication skills in Swedish and English. Additional desirable competencies include specialized research methods, in particular participative research, and/or academic knowledge of social change processes and rural development. 

We seek applicants who are strongly motivated to work with the outlined research project; with ability to work independently and develop initiatives that move the project forwards, as well as to work well in a research team, contributing to collective goals. Personal merits and social skills will be considered together with documented academic competencies in the recruitment process.
