Water scarcity and how we can reduce water pollution

In the western world, we all take clean water for granted and find it difficult to imagine not having instant access to as much clean drinkable water as we could possibly want. 

Most people ignore the fact that a large part of the globe does not have access to clean water which in the 21st century is a complete disgrace. We are able to send a man to the moon, a robot to Mars and all have smartphones capable of things that we unimaginable not too long ago and yet we are unable to provide every human with access to clean water. 

In this article, I will talk about the water scarcity problem along with solutions to help reduce the pollution of the world's most valuable commodity, water.

It is disheartening that an estimated 884 million people around the world do not have access to clean drinking water. What is worrying is that rather than the figure going down each year, it continues to rise.

2.4 Billion people are at risk of dying from drinking unclean water with the most common diseases from this causing cholera, typhoid, zika, malaria along with many different water-borne parasites.

The poor nations are affected most by this problem and unless the world's political leaders work together to solve this challenge, it will only get worse. Having a clean supply of water is vital for life and without it, a whole region can be devastated.

Studies carried out estimate by the year 2025 that water shortages will affect two-thirds of the whole world's population. Clean water will become more valuable than gold as the century comes to an end and action is needed immediately to resolve this problem.

Investment in infrastructure for clean water supply has been declining and with an ever-growing world population, this is going to increase the problems. There are many things we all can do to cut water pollution and scarcity. Below are three things that you can do to help with the world largest problem that it will ever face.

Stop using plastic bottles

One of the biggest contaminators of the world's water is plastic due to its non-biodegradable nature and being almost indestructible. There are so many daily products we buy made out of this poisonous material. You can do your part by avoiding buying products made out of plastic or if you do then you must make sure that you recycle it.

Oils and chemicals

We use many different oils and chemicals every day and most people do not give it a second thought about putting the excess down the drain. By doing this you are poisoning the water supply. You need your part and dispose of them correctly so we do not cause more harm the environment.

Minimize your use of water

In the western world, we take water for granted and use it without realizing the impact we are having. Before you use water consider how you can minimize the amount that you use such as taking a shower rather than a bath and using the dishwasher only when it is full.

We can all be more efficient with the water that we use and help the environment along with helping with the scarcity problem. It is going to take a big change in politics to avoid one the biggest natural disasters of all time but we can all do our bit to try to help solve this major issue.
