Agroecological Entrepreneurship Starts Here: Shifting Food Systems in Africa from Extraction to Regeneration

Too many food systems extract wealth from people, local economies and landscapes depleting soil and directing profits to global companies. This webinar, and the accompanying report, describe something different: local enterprises that build regenerative, agroecological food systems, keeping soil healthy and wealth in the community.

The Agroecology Fund (AEF) would like to share rich learnings with you, gleaned through dialogue with 15 grassroots organisations and networks across Africa who have  implemented Business Planning Grants. The goal of the grants was to finance needed research, planning and support to bridge the gap between food production as a way of life and as a way to build a healthy economy - while simultaneously strengthening a vibrant African agroecology movement. Representatives of these initiatives – from Senegal to Cameroon to Uganda - will share their stories on the call.

Join the webinar to hear about innovative businesses and business support strategies for:

  • Processing and value addition turning raw crops into products that last longer and sell for more.
  • Enterprises working with traditional seed varieties, well adapted to their area.
  • Direct markets linking farmers to buyers.
  • Financial tools that fit the timing of the food production cycle, the size of the business and the type of market where products are sold
