Public awareness campaigns are promotion activities meant to build public recognition of a problem through media, messaging, and an organized set of communication tactics.
The role of public awareness campaigns in increasing enthusiasm and support, stimulating self-mobilisation and action, as well as mobilising local knowledge and resources cannot be overemphasized. These campaigns are vital in raising political awareness among key actors in the policy process of adaptation. Also, while consumer preference for healthier, sustainable, and locally sourced food options increases, it is imperative to accentuate the benefits of supporting local farmers and agricultural enterprises. Public awareness campaigns can educate consumers about the value of local agriculture, increase their understanding of the benefits of consuming local products, and encourage them to make informed choices that support local farmers and contribute to the development of vibrant, resilient local food systems. Awareness raising thus demonstrates an operative range of strategies required for effective communication to the effect of desired outcomes.
This webinar explores the role of public awareness campaigns in promoting sustainable practices within the agri-food systems, local agricultural products, discusses key strategies and approaches, highlights successful case studies, and emphasizes the importance of collaboration between stakeholders. We will also discuss the role of the youth in change formation in our communities.
