World Food Day is an annual global observance that aims to raise awareness and take action against worldwide hunger and malnutrition. This day serves as a reminder of the need to ensure food security and access to nutritious food for all. It also highlights the importance of sustainable agriculture and food production to address global food challenges. World Food Day is an opportunity to come together as a global community and work towards a world where no one goes to bed hungry.
World Food Day was established by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in 1979. It commemorates the founding of the FAO in 1945 and was created to raise awareness about global hunger and promote action to alleviate it. Since its inception, World Food Day has been observed in over 150 countries, making it one of the most widely celebrated days in the United Nations calendar. It serves as a reminder of the importance of food security and the global commitment to ending hunger.
This theme aims to appreciate the vital contribution of farmers to the country’s agrifood systems i.e. by Honoring the Unsung Heroes of Agriculture. Farmers work tirelessly to produce the food we eat, often without recognition or appreciation. Through this theme, YPARD Uganda aims to celebrate the unsung heroes of agriculture, acknowledging their hard work, dedication, and commitment to feeding our communities.
At the expo different stakeholders will exhibit their agriculture products. At the end of the event, an identified long serving farmer, will be awarded in appreciation of their work. Additionally a youth farmer plus best child exhibitor will be awarded. After the event, YPARD Uganda will continue supporting the school with agriculture career guidance sessions for pupils.
The purpose of celebrating world food day is to join a global conversation that emphasizes the importance of food security, sustainable agriculture, and the commitment to ending hunger worldwide.
