Young People Reimagining Africa’s Food Systems: WYNA Programme Commemorating International Youth Day Webinar 2026

21 August 2026 | 3:00–4:30 PM EAT | Online

Young people are at the forefront of Africa’s food systems transformation, driving innovative approaches to agroecology, climate action and green entrepreneurship. To celebrate International Youth Day 2026, the Building Women & Youth-led Network Alliances for Agroecology and Organic Agriculture (WYNA) programme will host a virtual webinar under the theme:

“Young People Reimagining Africa’s Food Systems: Leading Agroecology, Innovation & Green Enterprises”

The webinar will take place on Friday, 21 August 2026, from 3:00 to 4:30 PM EAT, and will be hosted online via Zoom, Facebook Live and YouTube. The session will bring together young professionals, farmers, entrepreneurs, practitioners and partners from across Africa to reflect on the realities young people face in agriculture and explore how youth-led solutions can contribute to more sustainable, inclusive and resilient food systems.

What to expect

The 90-minute session will feature an engaging mix of youth perspectives, interactive discussions and practical opportunities.

Participants will begin with a Youth Reality Check, exploring the experiences and challenges facing young people in African agriculture. An interactive Mentimeter poll will also invite participants to share what gives them hope in agroecology and organic agriculture. The programme will then spotlight youth-led solutions and innovations through lightning talks, including experiences from Malawi and a climate innovation case from Nature’s Ray Farm Forest in Nigeria.

A Fishbowl Discussion will invite participants to imagine a future shaped by young people, asking:

“If African agriculture was designed by young people, what would we envision it to look like?”

The webinar will also feature an Opportunity Marketplace, where participants can learn about available grants, jobs, internships, fellowships, training opportunities and business incubation programmes. The session will further highlight opportunities emerging from the Africa Regional Conference on Agroecology and the YALTA Congress, before concluding with a keynote address and virtual group photo.
