We're thrilled to announce the establishment of the new YPARD Ethiopia Chapter.

With teammates from various backgrounds in the agrifood systems sector, the Chapter was started by a strong core team with experience in extension services, entrepreneurship, grassroots mobilization, and community engagement.

Meet Ghionawit Gebru

Ghionawit Gebru is a social entrepreneur and business professional dedicated to advancing sustainable agriculture and climate resilience in Ethiopia. As the Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Green Ethiopia, she leads the strategic operations of an organic fertilizer company focused on restoring soil health and boosting farmer productivity through circular economy solutions. Her commitment to agrifood transformation extends to her role as the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Lead for the World Food Forum (WFF) Ethiopia Youth National Chapter, where she empowers young leaders to drive sustainable change within the ecosystem. With a background in mechanical engineering and extensive experience in business advisory, Ghionawit combines technical expertise with a human-centered approach to build resilient food systems and foster inclusive economic growth.

Her aspiration for YPARD Ethiopia as the Country Representative is to build a community where young people are welcomed and appreciated for what they bring, even when they start with very little. She is committed to create an ecosystem that celebrates young people's journey to greatness — a platform where their voices are heard and they can share their wildest dreams for this country. Above all, Ghionawit wants young people to feel like they belong, and to feel their country is working for them, not against them.

Meet Amanuel Samuel

Amanuel Samuel is a development professional and entrepreneur specialized in agroecology, digital water governance, and youth empowerment. He holds a Master of Arts in Project Management and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

He currently serves as Founder and Executive Director of Green Future Ethiopia (a social enterprise working on sustainable water, renewable energy and livelihood), Leader for Slow Food Ethiopia, and Regional Coordinator for the World Food Forum Ethiopian Youth National Chapter. As Slow Food Leader, he managed the 10,000 Gardens in Africa project and established 32 school and community gardens across Ethiopia.

As Project Manager of the Agroforestry for Sustainable Development of People and Nature project, he coordinated training for 7,000 small-scale farmers (40% youth) and led the restoration of 100 hectares of degraded land through agroforestry. He later managed the Training & Education Program for Digital Management of Decentralized Water Schemes Development in Ethiopia, improving access to clean drinking water for 4,000 rural people while strengthening water governance and agricultural resilience.

As YPARD Ethiopia Co-Country Representative, Amanuel is committed to building an inclusive national chapter that places rural and underrepresented youth and agripreneurs at the center—expanding school and community gardens, creating practical learning and leadership pathways, and advancing climate-resilient agrifood systems across Ethiopia.

She will support the chapter in identifying collaboration opportunities, connecting young agricultural professionals with partners and resources, facilitating knowledge and experience exchange, and strengthening relationships that create opportunities for capacity building, innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable agri-food systems. She is passionate about creating meaningful connections that empower young people to contribute to Ethiopia's and Africa's agricultural transformation.
