Conclusion

The Empowering Youth for Agroecological Transformation in Agrifood Systems Programme (EYAAS) is an agroecology training initiative led by Young Professionals for Agricultural Development (YPARD) under the Food Systems Integrated Program (FSIP), coordinated by FAO and IFAD and financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

In its role of representing youth priorities within the FSIP, YPARD was actively involved in the co-creation of the EYAAS training modules, ensuring that the programme responds to the realities, aspirations, and opportunities facing young people in agrifood systems. The programme has been developed with the help of resources and technical tools like the FAO e-learning academy courses, the TAPE tool, and others and with expert guidance from FAO and IFAD. The delivery of the modules will be led and facilitated by YPARD.

EYAAS aims to equip young women and men with agroecology knowledge, practical tools, and leadership skills to catalyze and benefit from sustainable, inclusive, and regenerative food systems aligned with national agrifood systems priorities.

Across many countries, young people are already engaged in agrifood systems but continue to face challenges including limited access to skills development, resources, and decision-making spaces. The FSIP therefore prioritizes meaningful youth engagement as a critical lever for achieving sustainable agrifood systems transformation. EYAAS directly contributes to these priorities by strengthening youth capacities in agroecological practices, sustainable value chains, evidence-based monitoring tools, and policy and governance engagement.

Following the delivery of the EYAAS modules in Bhutan, it is set to be launched in Costa Rica and Mexico, and participants from these two countries will be announced soon.

YPARD welcomes collaboration and engagement with other interested FSIP countries seeking to co-create or participate in future EYAAS cohorts and related youth-led agroecology initiatives.

Interested countries are invited to express their interest to Soma Chakrabarti, Gender and Social Inclusion Specialist at FAO, via Soma.Chakrabarti@fao.org. For any enquiries about the training, please email Ajuna Tadeo, Programme Coordinator, YPARD at tadeo.ajuna@ypard.net .
