As we say thank you to Marina Venâncio for being a dedicated and influential member of the YPARD Steering Committee, we reflect on her incredible contributions over the past five years.
Marina joined the YPARD Steering Committee in May 2021, but her journey with the organization began much earlier. From July 2019 to May 2021, she served as the YPARD Brazil Country Representative, where she played a pivotal role in promoting YPARD’s mission within Brazil. In this role, Marina developed and implemented activities, engaged youth, and built key relationships with national and regional organizations. Her efforts to ensure that YPARD had a strong presence in Brazil contributed greatly to the movement’s global reach.
When she transitioned to the Steering Committee, Marina’s impact was even more pronounced. Her legal expertise and meticulous attention to detail helped guide YPARD through a crucial phase of its growth, providing the organization with the legal grounding necessary for it to establish and thrive as an independent NGO. Her ability to assess potential conflicts of interest with YPARD’s values ensured that decisions made by the Steering Committee were always ethical and aligned with the organization’s mission.
Marina’s input was instrumental in securing vital partnerships, including YPARD’s collaboration with the Global Environment Facility (GEF). Her thoughtful approach also helped steer the organization away from potential partnerships that did not align with YPARD’s values, always prioritizing the integrity of the organization and its work.
Beyond her legal and strategic contributions, Marina brought a sense of professionalism that permeated the Steering Committee. She led by example, fostering a collaborative environment where staff, Steering Committee members, and YPARD’s larger membership felt united in purpose. Marina’s ability to balance the weight of critical decisions with a sense of camaraderie and humor allowed the Steering Committee to navigate challenges while remaining focused on YPARD’s mission to support youth in agricultural development. Her leadership style was one of inclusivity, ensuring that no hierarchy existed between staff, committee members, and the broader YPARD community. Her approach allowed everyone to contribute meaningfully while working together towards a common goal.
While it is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Marina, we know that her decision to move on is part of the natural cycle of youth-led organizations. We understand the importance of focusing efforts where they are most needed, and Marina’s time, energy, and dedication have been invaluable to YPARD’s journey. As she moves on to new endeavors, we are grateful for the years she has spent contributing to YPARD’s success.
