We are delighted to welcome Selestine Focus Mushi, the new Country Representative of YPARD Tanzania.
Selestine is a professional environmental specialist, agricultural officer, and the founder/CEO of the Environmental Conservers Youth Club in Dodoma, Tanzania.
Over the past five years, he has been actively involved in environmental and agricultural activities, driven by a deep interest in protecting nature and promoting agriculture. His passion for these fields led him to pursue studies in environmental specialization and a Bachelor of Science degree in general agriculture. Throughout his academic journey, he participated in research projects and agricultural seminars, which helped to build his expertise.
He possesses technical and scientific expertise in environmental conservation and protection, as well as in agricultural science and technology, with a focus on sustainable crop and livestock production across various farming systems and industries.
In 2023, he founded the Environmental Conservers Youth Club, a non-profit organization that provides young people with a safe space to meet, participate, learn, and volunteer on environmental conservation and protection issues in community areas such as orphanages, elder care facilities, churches, mosques, and other communal spaces. The organization is dedicated to creating a future Tanzania with zero waste.
On August 14, 2024, Selestine officially introduced the YPARD Tanzania chapter at Vizano Hotel in the Dodoma region during the three-day East Africa Convening Conference. This event focused on empowering youth in climate policy and action for green job creation within food systems. The introductory event for YPARD Tanzania was opened by Selestine, who provided a comprehensive introduction to YPARD. He was followed by YPARD country representatives from Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia, who shared their insights on the network and youth involvement in agrifood systems.
Following the event, YPARD Tanzania has seen more than 50 new member applications and now boasts a team of esteemed leaders, with numerous activities and projects planned for the year. As YPARD Tanzania Country Representative, Selestine is excited to announce its growing engagement with new members and the influx of partnership requests from various youth organizations involved in agriculture.
