02 de julio de 2024-. En un evento abierto, startups de alto impacto y con enfoque agroecológico de Latinoamérica y el Caribe (LAC), participaron del Demo Day de YPARD Incuba. Este programa de incubación, se desarrolló entre los meses de abril y junio y desarrolló  capacidades en innovación y emprendimiento a jóvenes de Perú, Argentina, Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Haití y Brasil, gracias al impulso de la Red de Jóvenes profesionales para el desarrollo agrícola (YPARD, por sus siglas en inglés), en su coordinación para LAC.

El cierre del programa, en el que los equipos competían por los tres primeros lugares que incluían un premio en efectivo de USD 2,500 y becas de estudios, contó con la participación de un jurado internacional que eligió a las propuestas más destacadas por su potencial de escalabilidad e impacto regional.  El primer lugar fue otorgado a Foreslab (Perú), el segundo lugar fue alcanzado por AiGrou (Colombia), mientras que el tercer lugar lo registró Agroevolve (Argentina). La incubadora fue desarrollada con el apoyo financiero del Departamento de Estado de Estados Unidos a través del Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Alumni Impact Award, el técnico especializada de la Fundación Wadhwani de la India, así como gracias a colaboración de aliados estratégicos, como el Instituto Interamericano de Cooperación para la Agricultura (IICA), NGP Integral Service, la International Land Coalition (ILC), YPARD Perú y la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Agricultura y la Alimentación (FAO).

“El programa ha sido una experiencia enormemente enriquecedora no solo para los y las jóvenes de los equipos, sino para la coordinación de YPARD LAC y nuestros aliados. Resulta inspirador conocer estas propuestas innovadoras que buscan transformar los sistemas alimentarios de la región de una forma sostenible y en definitiva, un privilegio poder aportar para verles crecer e incrementar su potencial de impacto” detalla Hazell Flores, Coordinadora de YPARD Incuba.

Foreslab es una startup de biotecnología vegetal de Perú, que se especializa en la producción masiva de plantas nativas de calidad para abordar la escasez de abastecimiento para procesos de reforestación, restauración ecológica y actividades sostenibles. Su enfoque innovador utiliza la biotecnología vegetal para preservar y revalorizar la diversidad genética nativa, fortaleciendo así la seguridad alimentaria y haciendo frente al cambio climático así  como la deforestación.

“El programa ha sido una experiencia invaluable para nosotras en Foreslab. Nos ha brindado la oportunidad de aprender, crecer y conectar con otros profesionales apasionados por la biotecnología y agroecología. Los integrantes del segundo lugar recibirán cupos para cursar el diplomado sobre “Biodiversidad y Sistemas Agroalimentarios” durante el 2025, impartido por FAO Campus de la Oficina Regional de FAO para América Latina. Los miembros del tercer puesto, obtendrán cupos para participar de un curso impartido durante el 2025 en el marco del “Programa de Fortalecimiento de Capacidades para Jóvenes” impartido por FAO Campus y la agenda de juventud de la Oficina Regional de FAO para América Latina.

“YPARD Incuba generó un aprendizaje multiplicador, puesto que cada equipo (de distintos países) al momento de compartir sus experiencias y avances, incentivaba tácitamente al resto de startups a mejorar. Fue el mejor pretexto para generar una comunidad comprometida con el desarrollo competitivo y sostenido de los agronegocios en América Latina y el Caribe”, comenta el MBA, Econ. Christian Peñaloza, Facilitador y Mentor de la Fundación Whadwani, quien desarrolló las sesiones del programa de incubación.

El premio al primer lugar será entregado en Colombia en un evento de juventudes a realizarse a fines del presente año. De igual forma se elaborará una guía con los aprendizajes de la experiencia, a fin de contribuir con la réplica del programa a nivel regional, por parte de otros actores del ecosistema agroecológico, de innovación y desarrollo rural.

July 02, 2024-. In an open event, high-impact startups with an agroecological focus from Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) participated in YPARD Incuba's Demo Day. This incubation program, which took place between April and June, developed innovation and entrepreneurship skills among young people from Peru, Argentina, Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Haiti and Brazil, thanks to the support of the Young Professionals in Agricultural Development Network (YPARD), in its coordination for LAC.

The closing of the program, in which the teams competed for the first three places, which included a cash prize of US$2,500 and scholarships, was attended by an international jury that chose the most outstanding proposals for their potential for scalability and regional impact.  First place was awarded to Foreslab (Peru), second place went to AiGrou (Colombia), while third place went to Agroevolve (Argentina). The incubator was developed with the financial support of the U.S. Department of State through the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Alumni Impact Award, the specialized technical support of the Wadhwani Foundation of India, as well as thanks to the collaboration of strategic allies, such as the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), NGP Integral Service, the International Land Coalition (ILC), YPARD Peru and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

"The program has been an enormously enriching experience not only for the young people in the teams, but also for the coordination of YPARD LAC and our partners. It is inspiring to learn about these innovative proposals that seek to transform the food systems of the region in a sustainable way and ultimately, a privilege to be able to contribute to see them grow and increase their potential impact," said Hazell Flores, YPARD Incuba Coordinator.

Foreslab is a plant biotechnology startup from Peru, specializing in the mass production of quality native plants to address supply shortages for reforestation processes, ecological restoration and sustainable activities. Its innovative approach uses plant biotechnology to preserve and revalue native genetic diversity, thereby strengthening food security and addressing climate change as well as deforestation.

"The program has been an invaluable experience for us at Foreslab. It has given us the opportunity to learn, grow and connect with other professionals passionate about biotechnology and agroecology. The training and mentoring sessions have provided us with the tools and knowledge necessary to take our vision to the next level. We are committed to positively impact the lives of thousands of farmers and to continue leading the processes of mitigation and adaptation to climate change," emphasized Katya Silva and Bianca Vigil of Foreslab. 

The members of the second place will receive quotas to attend the diploma course on "Biodiversity and Agrifood Systems" during 2025, taught by FAO Campus of the FAO Regional Office for Latin America. The members of the third place, will get quotas to participate in a course taught during 2025 in the framework of the "Capacity Building Program for Youth" taught by FAO Campus and the youth agenda of the FAO Regional Office for Latin America.

"YPARD Incuba generated multiplier learning, since each team (from different countries), when sharing their experiences and progress, tacitly encouraged the rest of the startups to improve. It was the best pretext to generate a community committed to the competitive and sustained development of agribusiness in Latin America and the Caribbean," said MBA, Econ. Christian Peñaloza, Facilitator and Mentor of the Waddwani Foundation, who developed the incubation program sessions.

The first-place prize will be awarded in Colombia at a youth event to be held later this year. A guide will also be prepared with the lessons learned from the experience, in order to contribute to the replication of the program at the regional level by other actors in the agro-ecological, innovation and rural development ecosystem.
