On November 30, a vibrant gathering of young leaders, educators, and agroecology enthusiasts took place at the Taller de Conformación de Núcleos de Aprendizajes Agroecológicos (NAA) in Amazonas. This initiative, spearheaded by ANPE PERU, marked a significant step toward fostering youth-led agroecological development in Peru.

The workshop provided an interactive platform for participants from the Yachay Wasi Agroecology school and allied organizations. With a focus on leadership, capacity building, and collaborative learning, the event emphasized the role of youth in championing agroecology and sustainability in their communities.

Key Highlights of the Workshop:

  1. Presenting Results from "Agroecología Yachay Wasi":
The session showcased the progress made in this formative space, designed to deepen agroecological practices among young participants.
  2. Sharing Success Stories:
Attendees were inspired by the experiences of the Association of Young Agroecological Leaders, particularly their innovative project to create liquors from native fruits. Additionally, participants celebrated the achievements of a winning seed capital project, reflecting the power of youth-driven initiatives.
  3. Formation of the NAA:
The workshop culminated in the establishment of Agroecological Learning Nuclei, complete with proposals for collaborative work aimed at strengthening agroecology at the local level.

What Are the Agroecological Learning Nuclei (NAA)?

The NAA represents dynamic inter-learning spaces where young individuals come together to exchange knowledge and co-create solutions for local challenges. These nuclei embody the principle of “learning by doing,” empowering participants to develop innovative agroecological initiatives that promote sustainability.

To ensure success, territorial brigades comprising experienced farmers, organizations, and institutions provide mentorship, workshops, and knowledge-sharing dialogues. This collaborative framework is a cornerstone for fostering agroecological resilience in rural communities.

Primary Insights from the event:

The event featured a series of insightful presentations and engaging activities:

  • Research Findings:
María Fernanda Barrios, a researcher from PUCP, shared initial results of a study on the social representations of rural youth in agroecology across Amazonas and Ayacucho.
  • Dynamic Icebreaker Activities:
A creative Bingo-style introduction led by YPARD Peru’s Liliana Quispe fostered connections and trust among participants.
  • Identifying Training Priorities:
Young attendees collectively identified critical areas for capacity building, ensuring that future efforts align with their needs and aspirations.

A Collective Vision for the Future

ANPE PERU, together with YPARD Peru and other stakeholders, expresses heartfelt gratitude to the youth who participated in this transformative event. Their enthusiasm and dedication reaffirm the importance of agroecology as a pillar for sustainable rural development.

By strengthening agroecology through youth leadership, initiatives like the NAA pave the way for resilient, equitable food systems. Together, we’re building a future where sustainability and agroecology thrive hand in hand.
