The National Geographic Foundation for Science and Exploration in Asia makes grants to support Asian scientists, conservationists, and explorers. The program open to residents of Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam to work anywhere in the world. Applications can be submitted in three categories: Research, Conservation, and Exploration. The average grant size is US$30 thousand. The deadline for pre-applications is 15 July 2016.

The "Heart of Borneo Initiative" focuses on international cooperation to maintain forests and biodiversity in a network of protected areas and sustainably managed forests. The program includes the interdiction of wildlife trafficking in East Kalimantan, Sabah, and Sarawak. Activities may include strengthening transboundary political support to stop wildlife trafficking and illegal logging; capacity building for protected areas and forest management; and promotion of alternative livelihoods for local communities. Applications are accepted from NGOs, educational institutions, and non-U.S. government entities. The program will make one grant for up to US$99 thousand. Funding Opportunity OES-OER-16-001. The Lower Mekong Initiative Nexus Futures Program aims to advance sustainable development around the water, energy, food, and environment nexus within the 3S river and watershed system in Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. The project will seek to strengthen the political will to manage the region's shared resources. The project team should be experienced in transboundary water cooperation and environmental governance; process facilitation; conflict mitigation; mediation; decision sciences; climate change adaptation; political economy analysis; diplomacy; international development; nexus planning; and stakeholder engagement. Applications are invited from non-profit NGOs, educational institutions, governments, and public international organizations. The program will make one grant for up to US$473 thousand for 18 months. FAO's Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia has an internship opening for 4 months starting from September 2016 onwards.

The Graduate Scholarship Program provides funding to support exceptional conservationists in the Asia/Pacific region, Africa, Latin America, and North America (indigenous groups) in masters and doctoral programs. Following the award of a scholarship, WCS initially assists each scholar to identify appropriate institutions of study. WCS country program directors, or other agreed and designated nominators, may nominate one applicant per year per country. Only nominated applicants will be considered. The Essential Electronic Agricultural Library (TEEAL) is a full-text and searchable database of articles from high-quality research journals in agriculture and related sciences. The Information Training and Outreach Center for Africa, in collaboration with Albert R. Mann Library of Cornell University, invites applications from eligible institutions in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania, and Uganda to acquire TEEAL sets. The International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) provides Communications, Knowledge and Information Management to the CGIAR Gender and Agriculture Research Network.

The visiting researcher will support the Communications and Knowledge Management Coordinator for the Gender Network and be responsible for generating, editing and curating content and special features, including social media for the gender network’s website and related online channels, with the aim of increasing the sites’ effectiveness in attracting and engaging with target audiences such as network members and donors.

The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a Masters Student to work with staff of the Capacity Development Unit of ILRI to develop and pilot test training materials for facilitators of innovation platforms. The materials will be used to develop a blended learning program comprising online lessons and face-to-face training activities. These materials will further enhance ILRI’s contribution to the capacity development and learning aspects of several of its CGIAR Research Programs (CRP) and programs.

Requirements:

The position is located in the FAO's West Africa Team (WAT) responsible for developing, promoting, overseeing and implementing agreed strategies for addressing subregional food, agriculture and rural development priorities. It develops and maintains relations with subregion-wide institutions including Regional Economic Integration Organizations (REIOs). It assists the FAO Representations (FAORs) in the subregion with addressing sub-regional food security, agriculture and rural development issues at country level.

Technical Focus
Develop integrated crop programs that respond to the sub regional priorities and promote the principles of “Save and Grow” for achieving Sustainable Crop Production Intensification (SCPI) within the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) framework with emphasis on increasing resources use efficiency for increased ecosystem stability in national programs.

The Agriculture and Food Security (AFS) program finances applied research initiatives that generate solutions for more equitable and productive small-scale agriculture and help solve immediate and concrete food security and nutrition challenges in the developing world.

Program activities include the implementation of large co-funded programs such as the Canadian International Food Security Research Fund (supported jointly with Global Affairs) and the Cultivating Africa’s Future (in partnership with the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research) and the exploration of new partnership opportunities. The program has a strong emphasis on knowledge translation and scaling up the use of research findings into development outcomes by direct engagement with research users, including with public-private partnerships.

The program INFEWS ("Innovations at the Nexus of Food, Energy, and Water Systems") aims to promote international cooperation that links scientists and engineers from a range of disciplines and organizations to solve the significant global challenges at the nexus of food, energy, and water systems. Proposals including international collaboration are encouraged when they incorporate unique resources, expertise, facilities, or sites of international partners. However, international counterparts generally should have support or obtain funding through other non-NSF sources. The deadline for pre-proposals is 22 March 2016.

The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking a Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Specialist for an ongoing project in West Africa entitled Jumpstarting Orange-fleshed Sweetpotato (OFSP) in West Africa through Diversified Markets.

The Project: The Jumpstarting project seeks to demonstrate that by taking a value chainapproach to introducing OFSP, commercially oriented seed and production systems will emerge as markets for the roots drive demand for quality planting materials. The project is predicated on the hypothesis that it is possible to simultaneously develop value chains for OFSP and maximize nutritional benefits to vulnerable populations. The project works in pilot target zones in Ghana, Burkina Faso, and Nigeria. The M&E specialist is part of a multi-disciplinary team made up of CIP regional scientists, private sector, government, and non-governmental organization partners.

The Center: CIP is a not-for-profit international agricultural research for development with a focuson potatoes, sweetpotatoes, and Andean roots and tubers. Its vision is to emphasize the use of roots and tubers to improve the lives of the poor. CIP is dedicated to achieving food security, improved well-being, and gender equality for poor people in root and tuber farming and food systems of the developing world. CIP works with partners to contribute high quality science, technology, and capacity strengthening for sustainable science-based solutions. The Position: This position will be based in Tamale, Ghana or Osogbo, Nigeria, and will report to the Project Leader based in Tamale, Ghana. The selected candidate should be committed to guiding M&E of action research in a complex cooperative environment of research, development and private sector partners, and will be required to travel extensively within the three target countries (Ghana, Burkina Faso and Nigeria), with occasional travel to other regions of the world.
