The Gender Innovation Laboratory (GIL) designs and carries out gender programming of development initiatives in Sub-Saharan Africa, including in agriculture. The GIL will select up to 14 project teams for evaluation. Following the evaluations, the selected organizations will be invited to apply for funding to support targeted gender issues. Expressions of interest should be submitted before 08 July 2013.

The Future for Nature Award recognizes internationally outstanding efforts to conserve wild animals and plants. Work related to endangered species (IUCN's Red List) is a priority.  Candidates for the award should be no older than age 35. The Award offers international recognition, financial support, and reinforced linkages to an international conservation network.  The application deadline is 08 September 2013.

The Staff Group Rural Development, Environment and Population Studies has a vacancy for a Postdoctoral researcher (18 months) in the field of: Agrarian, Food and Environmental Studies (AFES)

The Staff Group is engaged in research, teaching, advisory work and institutional capacity building in international development studies. It has recently formed a research program (RP), “Political Economy of Resources, Environment and Population”, which included the research areas of agrarian and environmental studies.

CABI and 3ie seek qualified teams to evaluate CABI's Plantwise program in Kenya. Plantwise is a global partnership, led by CABI, to connect male and female farmers to the information they need to lose less, grow more, and improve the quality of their crops. The impact evaluation needs to measure the effect of Plantwise on capacity building, institutional change, farmer behavior and agricultural productivity. Teams apply for a preparation grant of US$20 thousand. The closing date for applications is 15 June 2013.

The Heinrich Böll Foundation annually funds approximately 1,000 undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students across all subjects and nationalities for university studies in Germany. Preference is for applicants working in the subject areas of the Foundation such as climate and energy, resource governance, and ecology and green development (among others). The geographical scope (but not exclusive) for international students is Central and Eastern Europe; EU neighborhood countries and the CIS; the Middle East and North Africa; transition and newly industrialized countries; and conflict regions worldwide. DITSL is a non-profit limited liability company (GmbH) at the Faculty of Organic Agricultural Sciences of the University of Kassel at Witzenhausen. DITSL conducts research on agricultural systems as human activity systems following an inter- and transdisciplinary social-ecological approach.

DITSL is looking for a dynamic, highly motivated and innovative scientist for a Post Doc position in the frame of the collaborative research project RELOAD: Reduction of Post Harvest Losses and Value Addition in East African Food Value Chains. The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and led by the University of Kassel in Germany.

The Organic Research Centre is looking to appoint a Researcher to its Crops & Agroforestry Team. The successful applicant will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of ORC’s crops research program, with a focus on the field based plant breeding projects. In particular, the Researcher will contribute to the COBRA project and, together with the Senior Crops Researcher and Crops and Agroforestry Team Leader, will assist in this projects management. This permanent position will report to the Senior Crops Researcher.

Candidates should be educated to at least degree level (at least 2.1) in Agricultural/Biological/Ecological or related sciences or have equivalent experience to this level. Knowledge and understanding of plant and/or ecological genetics are essential. A relevant postgraduate qualification would be an advantage. Experience of designing and implementing field trials and experiments is also needed, as is and application of relevant statistical methods. An interest in the environment and organic farming is desirable. Good communication skills, both oral and written are essential. The ability to work independently and to contribute to the work of the team is also important.

The CTA announces a media competition on using information and communication technologies (ICT) to support agricultural development. The competition is open to journalists who are nationals of the African-Caribbean-Pacific countries, and working for print or online media. The finalists will be supported to attend an international conference in Rwanda, and receive a prize of €1 thousand. The deadline for submissions (English or French) is 15 August 2013.
